Daniil Orlov is a Russian pianist, arranger and composer. He received his training at the Moscow State Conservatory (in the class of Ksenia Knorre) and in the Young Artists Opera Programme of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. He also took part in the training programme of the opera studio of the Komische Oper Berlin.
In Moscow, he has worked as a musical co-author on dramatic performances at various theatres. Since 2018, he has been in close collaboration with director Kirill Serebrennikov, whom he has advised on the conception of various productions, including Così fan tutte at the Zurich Opera House and the Komische Oper Berlin, Nabucco at the Hamburg State Opera, Parsifal and Don Carlo at the Vienna State Opera, Die Nase at the Bavarian State Opera, Freischütz at the Dutch National Opera, Le nozze di Figaro at the Komische Oper Berlin and Lohengrin at the Opéra Bastille.
In addition, Orlov composed the film music for Serebrennikov's Tchaikovsky's Wife (part of the main programme of the Cannes Film Festival 2022).
In 2024, he wrote the music for the theatre play Legend by Kirill Serebrennikov as part of the Ruhrtriennale. In the 2024/25 season, Orlov will work again with director Serebrennikov at the Komische Oper Berlin for the production Don Giovanni/Requiem.
Orlov has been living and working in Germany since 2022.
