Sophie Jira
Sophie Jira was born in Vienna and spent almost all the evenings of her youth in the standing room of the Vienna State Opera. She studied musicology at the University of Vienna and since then, in collaboration with the Vienna Institute for Strauss Research, has focussed on operetta, Viennese music and the music of the Strauss family.
After several internships at the Federal Museum of Pathology and Anatomy in Vienna, she gained her first professional experience in the press office of the Vienna State Opera, in the organisation of the Vienna Opera Ball and in broadcasting at the cultural radio station Ö1.

From 2020 to 2024, Sophie Jira was employed as a music theatre dramaturge at the Theater Altenburg Gera, where she worked with directors such as Achim Freyer, Bernd Mottl, Kay Kuntze, Lea Willeke, Jean Renshaw and Laurence Dale. She has written several stage programmes for Gera, including revues (Wien bei Nacht, 2024). Her first full-length operetta Redoute in Reuß (music: Olav Kröger), set in the dwarf principality of Reuß-Greiz-Schleiz, premiered at Gera Theatre in 2024.
Sophie Jira is a scholarship holder of the Deutsche Bank Foundation's Akademie Musiktheater heute in the libretto/text category.
She has been a dramaturge at the Komische Oper Berlin since the 2024/25 season.
