Rocío Bazán
From a very young age, Rocío Bazán felt the need to express her feelings through flamenco singing, also called »cante«, as her great-grandfather José and her maternal grandmother, Manuela, would do. Her voice would begin to be forged in flamenco clubs and festivals of her land. Rocío’s voice matured over time, so her artistic career began to take on a hectic pace. Recognition soon began to arrive in the form of prizes, including »Jóvenes Flamencos« award from Festival del Cante de las Minas in 1999 and, above all, the most precious award in XII Bienal de Arte Flamenco de Sevilla, the Giraldillo, Young Performersin 2002, for being a singer with extensive records.
As a soloist, her performances in Flamenco Festival USA, Voix de Femmes Festival in Paris, Jerez Flamenco Festival, Flamenco Madrid Festival, Granada Music and Dance Festival, Luxembourg Flamenco Festival, Montevideo Flamenco Festival and Buenos Aires Flamenco Biennial with their shows: Málaga Cantaora, Desde el Alma hasta la Boca, Intrépida und Jondura Sinfónica among many others.
She has collaborated with great artists such as Antonio Canales, Carmen Linares, Miguel Poveda, Juan Peña »El Lebrijano«, Daniel Casares, Blanca del Rey, Fosforito, Mario Maya among others.
Her voice and her passion have been present together with Classical Orchestras and great conductors such as: Washington Post Classical Emsemble with conductor Angel Gil-Ordóñez, l’Orquestra Nacional Clàssica d’Andorra with conductor Edmon Colomer i Soler, Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga with conductor Jose María Valiente, Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Argentina with conductor Ignacio García Vidal, Filarmonica Oltenia Craiova (Romania) together with the conductor Isabel López Calzada, the Brutenburg Philharmonic with conductor Jörg Birhance, etc.
Teatro La Latina in Madrid, New York City Center, Palau de la Música in Barcelona, Tower of David in Jerusalem, Peking Opera, Auditorio Nacional Adela Reta – Montevideo, Suzanne Dellal Theater in Tel Aviv, Teatro Lope de Vega in Sevilla, Auditórium Nacional de Buenos Aires and, Brussels European Parliament, are just some of the scenic spaces where the art of Rocío Bazán has taken on a stratospheric dimension.
