Alfred Peter studied in the master class for stage and film design at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna under Axel Manthey and Klaus Zehelein. He completed his training as an assistant to Peer Boysen, Marietta Eggmann, Ernst Wiener, Rolf Langenfass and Fred Berndt.
Alfred Peter has been working as a freelance stage and costume designer for opera, drama and dance theatre since 1991, with a long-standing dance collaboration with the choreographers Urs Dietrich and Susanne Linke. Among the directors Peter has worked with are names such as Tillmann Knabe, Alexander Schulin and Sigrid Anderson.
His work has taken him to many theatres in Germany and abroad. He has designed sets and costumes for the Festwochen für Alte Musik Innsbruck, the Graz Opera, the Munich Kammerspiele, the Lucerne Theatre, the Vienna Volksoper, the Stuttgart State Opera and the Bremen Theatre, among others. More recent work has taken him to the theatre in Hagen, where he created Bela Bartok's Bluebeard's Castle with director and artistic director Francis Hüsers, and to the Freiburg Theatre for the stage design of Madama Butterfly , directed by Benedikt Arnold.
At the Komische Oper Berlin, Peter has already realised the stage design for Bremer Stadtmusikanten, Nils Holgerssons wundersame Abenteuer and Die kleine Hexe.
