Rui Rodrigues started piano at the age of 8 and completed his studies in 2010 at the Porto School of Music and Performing Arts, where he studied with Professor Miguel Borges Coelho. He took part in various masterclasses and worked with different pianists, such as Manuela Gouveia, Vitaly Margulis, Jura Margulis, Pierre Réach, Luiz de Moura Castro, Badura-Skoda, Jun Kanno and Sofia Vinogradova. He made his debut as a soloist with Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 3 and won the Helena Sá e Costa competition ex aequo in 2010.
In addition to his activity as a pianist, Rodriguez gained recognition as a composer and received several first prizes in national and international competitions, including the Concorso per Banda Romualdo Marenco 2006 in Novi Ligure, Italy, and the III Composition Competition for Symphonic Wind Orchestra 2015, organised by the Portuguese Symphonic Wind Orchestra.

Rui Rodrigues‘ pursuit of excellence led him to study orchestral conducting, first under the tutelage of Jean-Sébastien Béreau and later with Uros Lajovic. At the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, he completed his master’s degrees in orchestral conducting with Johannes Wildner and in accompaniment with Konrad Leitner.
His professional career has taken him to the National Theatre of São Carlos, where he worked as a répétiteur, and to the Komische Oper Berlin, where he has held this position since 2018. Throughout his career, he has had the opportunity to share the stage and work with major figures in the world of music and theatre, including Barrie Kosky, Vladimir Jurowski, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Christoph Eschenbach, Anne Sofie von Otter, João Paulo Santos and James Gaffigan.
