Managing Director
Susanne Moser
Susanne Moser has been Managing Director of the Komische Oper Berlin since the 2005/06 season. She initially led the theatre together with Artistic Director Andreas Homoki, and since 2012 with Artistic Director and Chief Director Barrie Kosky. Since the 2022/23 season, she has also taken over the artistic directorship together with Opera Director Philip Bröking in addition to her current position.
Born in Salzburg, she studied business administration in Vienna and has worked in the cultural sector since graduating. Among other things, Susanne Moser worked as assistant to the commercial management and head of the controlling department at the Burgtheater Vienna from 1999 to 2001. From 2001 to 2005, she was Commercial Director and Managing Director of the Schauspielhaus Wien during the directorship of Barrie Kosky and Airan Berg. She is co-founder of Graf Moser Management GmbH, which has developed the ‘Kulturplaner’, a customised controlling tool for cultural enterprises. She has been teaching controlling, strategic corporate management and cultural management since 2005, including at the University of Zurich.
Susanne Moser initiated and established the ‘Selam Opera’ project at the Komische Oper Berlin in 2011. It is the Komische Oper's most powerful intercultural audience development programme and sets standards far beyond Berlin.
Susanne Moser has been a board member of the Berliner Leben Foundation since 2013. And since 2016, she has been Deputy Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of mumok - Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien. In 2018, she was appointed as a member of the statutory advisory board of Berliner Sparkasse. In 2020, she became a member of the board of the Wiener Volkstheater Privatstiftung, and since 2021 she has been a member of the board of trustees of the WZB - Social Science Research Centre Berlin. Since May 2022, she has been Chairwoman of the German-speaking Opera Conference.
From 2009 to 2015, Susanne Moser was a member of the supervisory boards of Burgtheater Wien GmbH, Staatsoper Wien GmbH, Volksoper Wien GmbH and ART for ART Theaterservice GmbH and chaired the supervisory board of Staatsoper Wien GmbH for several months. From 2015 to 2017, she was a member of the Supervisory Board of Wiener Bundestheater Holding. From 2013 to 2019, she was an elected member of the Board of Opera Europa, where she served as Deputy Chairwoman from 2017 to 2019.
