Rainer Simon
Rainer Simon is artistic director of the Schall&Rausch festival and director of the outdoor venues of the Komische Oper Berlin. He studied philosophy, music and theatre studies in Berlin, Munich and Paris, music and spoken theatre direction at the August Everding Theatre Academy in Munich and took part in the Executive Master in Arts Administration further education programme at the University of Zurich. He completed his doctorate at the Friedrich Alexander University of Nuremberg-Erlangen with Clemens Risi and was a research assistant at the DFG-funded collaborative research centre "Kulturen des Performativen" from 2008 to the end of 2010.
Between 2007 and 2009, he was production manager and dramaturge for various independent spoken word and music theatre projects at the Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin, the Spielart Festival in Munich and the Zürcher Theaterspektakel. From 2012 to 2022 he was advisor to the artistic director of the Komische Oper Berlin, Barrie Kosky.
Rainer Simon is a founding and board member of ZMB e.V. (Verein Zeitgenössisches Musiktheater Berlin) and has been a jury and curatorial member for the BAM! festival for contemporary music theatre Berlin several times. In 2021 he was a jury member of Music Theatre Now, the international music theatre prize of the International Theatre Institute.
Rainer Simon is the author and editor of various monographs and anthologies, including "Labor oder Fließband" (2013), "Konzert der Sinne" (2018) and "Staging Gender" (2019).
