Esteban Muñoz Herrera
Esteban Muñoz Herrera was born in Valdivia (Chile) and studied theatre studies at the Ludwig Maximilian University and dramaturgy at the August Everding Theatre Academy in Munich. He has worked with directors such as Calixto Bieito, Barrie Kosky, Emilio Sagi and Balázs Kovalik and has performed at numerous opera houses, including Cologne, Zurich, Lausanne, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Chicago, Houston, Santiago de Chile and the Salzburg Festival. Since 2011, he has enjoyed a close artistic collaboration with Carlus Padrissa and La Fura dels Baus. Together they have developed productions of Die Soldaten (Cologne Opera), Elektra (NorrlandsOperan), Der Ring des Nibelungen (Houston and Taichung), Karl V. (Bavarian State Opera) and Der Freischütz (Konzerthaus Berlin), among others. In Chile, he staged the theatre play Cariño malo by Inés Margarita Stranger, the oratorio 1850 by Luis Advis and developed the shows Divas del cine and Los viudos de Marilyn for the pop singer Paz Court, among others.
From 2016 to 2023, he was engaged as theatre director at the Komische Oper Berlin, where he was responsible for the semi-staged performances of Paul Abraham's operettas Dschainah and Die Blume von Hawaii and the German premiere of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream with incidental music by Astor Piazzolla. In 2013, he was honoured with the ProArte Award for Young Artist of the Year in Chile.
